Maths Tutoring from Oxford Statistics PhD 

I am Dr Qinyi Zhang, a mathematician and statistician educated at the University of Oxford, where I completed a DPhil (PhD) in Statistics in 2020, specialising in statistical machine learning. Prior to this, I earned a Distinction in MSc in Applied Statistics at Oxford and a First Class Honours degree in Mathematics from Imperial College London. My doctoral studies were fully funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC).

 

While I find incredible joy in solving challenging maths problems, maths also gives me a structured way to approach problems in everyday life and helps to anchor my busy, sometimes anxious mind. I wasn’t always confident in maths. In primary school, I struggled and often found exams difficult. However, when I was 13, I met a secondary school teacher whose approach completely changed my perspective. Maths began to make sense, and exams became far less stressful. I was amazed by how much I improved, to a level I hadn’t thought possible. That experience shaped not only my academic journey but also my approach to teaching. I understand first-hand what it feels like to struggle, to feel unable to reach one's full potential, and how transformative the right guidance can be.

 

Inspired by my own experience, I would like to help students through personalised mathematics tuition tailored to each student’s needs. My approach focuses on building strong foundations, breaking down complex ideas, fostering a deep understanding and developing the confidence needed to succeed in exams. Whether a student is aiming to improve their grades or reach their full potential, my goal is to make Maths feel intuitive and enjoyable.
